Fifty Years, Fifty Posters

What kind of imagery could best honor the thousands and thousands of posters that have graced the walls of Lahti's exhibition halls over the years? Who knows. The designer's worst fear – a blank page – takes on a new meaning in this work. Viewers can imagine the forgotten images of the past and the unborn works of the future in place of the empty posters. The white sheets can also be seen as pages of history, years flowing by. Perhaps passersby will be inspired to write their own congratulations on the poster.

This poster was a competition proposal for Lahti International Poster Triennale 2025.

PBDC – Nautilus*

*A shelled mollusk belonging to the class of cephalopods living in the seas.

The poster design features a collage of images that evoke the essence of the show and the graceful movements of the dancers. It takes inspiration from the choreography, which embodies PBDC’s characteristic experimental, playful, and dance-theatrical movement language. Soft pastel colors that are also seen in the shows costume design, dominate the palette, blending harmoniously to create a serene yet vibrant atmosphere.

Pina Bounce Dance Company is a part-time, yet professionally operating contemporary dance group founded by dancer-choreographer Mari Vakkilainen in 2017. Nautilus was performed in the spring of 2024.
